The Cutera CoolGlide Difference

The Cutera CoolGlide was designed to be the most outstanding laser hair reduction system on the market for all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients. Its unique design, longer wavelength, and innovative cooling allow extremely effective, safe, results.

Now men and women alike are making unwanted facial and body hair a thing of the past - thanks to the Cutera CoolGlide Laser. No more painful waxing, electrolysis or razors! The CoolGlide laser delivers 21st century technology for treatment of this distressing problem. Cleared for permanent hair reduction, the CoolGlide laser can treat men and women of all skin types safely and effectively, year-round. Even patients with a suntan.

What do CoolGlide treatments feel like?

As the name implies, the CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments. However, the number of CoolGlide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors - hair thickness, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

What are the possible side effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

How does the CoolGlide compare with electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, the CoolGlide effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.

There now exists a gentle, safe and effective means for the removal of unwanted hair for both women and men. Laser hair removal can be performed on any area of the face or body and is faster and easier than other methods of hair removal. A series of treatments are provided at 4-8 week to achieve treatment goals.

ELECTROLYSIS

Electrolysis hair reduction is the procedure that uses low-level electricity to kill or render inactive hair follicles. Electrolysis hair removal has the best results on women with white or very blonde hair and for women who have isolated areas of unwanted hair. Permanent hair removal electrolysis is delivered to the follicle through a probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs.

There is an action of the galvanic current in the base of the method. As a result anode-cathode reaction occurs forming the salt acid, which is disintegratingly converted in acerbic alkali. These two chemical materials bring electrolytic burn and destruction of hair follicle.

During the procedure of electrolysis hair reduction neutral electrode is jammed with a hand of the patient, but an active electrode in the manner of needles is entered along hair's pivot corresponding to the location of follicles. Here on it electric current is given, which power is adjusted by means of device. There are standard recommendations on the use of the current of one or another power depending on thicknesses of the hair and depths of the location of follicles. The sign of finished chemical reaction is the separation white spume, the reaction of the hydrogen. The processed hair can be deleted with the usual tweezers.

Needles made of tungsten and steels were used earlier. At present time there is a needle with insulating covering with teflon or ceramicses that allows to provide the electrolysis only on the top of the needle (which remains uncovered).

The permanent hair removal electrolysis is a more painless way of reducing hair and risk of the complications is less than with thermolysis. Though there are many modern systems which are used in electrolysis hair removal nowadays, velocity of the procedure is comparatively low, processing of one hairspring occupies about several seconds.

With the action of constant electric current around electrode carried in follicle are formed ions sodium, which are interacting with liquid of tissue form microdose of alkali that brings destruction of the hair follicle.

The advantage of the method of electrolysis hair removal is that it allows to work even with twisted channel, as alkali is a liquid and can get into lower segment even when an electrode can't get it. The defect of this method is that removing hair requires plenty of time. On the upside, results last longer than with waxing and depilatories, but the process can be time consuming and costly. First of all, find out the electrolysis cost. Finding a reputable practitioner is the key point, because electrolysis performed incorrectly can cause scarring. Before you begin the treatment, ask for recommendations from former clients, and make sure that your practitioner uses a new needle for each session. There are also some advantages, the best and longest track record of results and over the last 125 years of clinically proven safety and effectiveness.

However, there are also disadvantages of electrolysis hair removal. It can be painful, tedious, difficult for large amounts of hair, and regulation varies by state, so inadequate controls exist to ensure competent practitioners. Regrowth rates have not been accurately established and cannot be predicted due to numerous variables, that's why some consumers avoid this kind of treatment.
